PDP
describes Saraki Ekweremadu's trial as tyranny
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)
has reacted to the arraignment of Bukola Saraki and Ike Ekweremadu and
described it as tyrannical.
Bukola Saraki
and Ike Ekweremadu
The Senate president and his deputy,
the former chief clerk of the national assembly chief clerk, Salisu Maikasu,
and his deputy, Benedict Efeturi have been accused of conspiracy and forgery of
Senate Standing Rules that produced Saraki and Ekweremadu as Senate President
and deputy in 2015.
The suit followed a petition to the
inspector general of police calling for investigation into the allegation of
the forgery of the Senate rules by the secretary to the anti-Saraki Unitu
Forum, Suleiman Hunkuyi.
Based on Hunkuyi’s petition, forgery
charges were levelled against Saraki and the three other men in question, with
the police submitting the details of his preliminary reports to the nation’s
Attorney General and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami. The PDP said the
charges against the principal officers of the Senate will destroy the country’s
democracy and described it as tyrannical.
